This project began with us creating self-portraits using chalk and charcoal, looking at light sources and how we use tone to create lighter or darker areas. Our research looked at how artists have used traditional mosaics, for example during the Byzantine Empire; we then compared the way mosaics are made from tesserae to the way digital images are made up of pixels.
